ExpressVPN Overview

ExpressVPN is considered one of the fastest VPNs in the market. Having been in the business for well over a decade now, ExpressVPN has come out of its shell long since and made a brand name out of itself.

They have blazing-fast VPN servers to choose from over 164 locations in 94 countries. ExpressVPN enables the users to switch servers and bandwidth without any limits or caps.

ExpressVPN is capable of providing both onshore as well as offshore online protection. Having said that; I don’t think a lot of VPN providers are superior enough to handle the extensive offshore privacy fortification. The VPN company exerts from the British Virgin Islands which is a region deprived of any data withholding laws.

ExpressVPN is sternly against activity logs and connection logs. In addition to that, it offers brilliant functionality with a variety of devices and operating systems. In light of security, ExpressVPN is unbeatable thanks to its unwavering anonymity, leak protection, and split-tunneling.

We’ll narrow all of ExpressVPN’s features in great detail but first, let’s take a look at the aspect which matters most; the money.

Pricing and Discounts

As of 2019, ExpressVPN is offering three pricing plans. You can avail the VPN services on a monthly billing at $12.95/mo, on a 6-month billing at $9.99/mo, and on an annual billing at $8.32/mo.

ExpressVPN Review (Pricing)

I wouldn’t go as far as calling ExpressVPN inexpensive since I’ve optimized premium VPN services at more considerate pricing. However, it’s not over-priced either. After determining the speed and streaming tests, I’d say ExpressVPN offers value for money.

Payment Options

ExpressVPN accepts a wide range of payment options such as Credit cards, Paypal, Bitcoin and Alipay, Union Pay, iDeal, Klarna, WebMoney, GiroPay, Interac, OneCard, and Yandex Money.

Performance, Speed, and Stability

Speed test

Before we derive a VPN’s analysis about its performance, we carry out mandatory speed tests determining the accurate speed limit of several different servers. First and foremost, we run our tests in the most popular locations such as the UK, USA, and the Canadian servers.

Thanks to speedtest.net, we found out ExpressVPN’s European server bestowed almost 110mbps, along with very low lagging capacity and less than 5ms ping.

The US servers also stood out exceptionally well, with the Californian server giving around 90mbps on average. The less popular locations such as the Australian and Asian servers showed larger latency, however, granted at least 45-55mbps of upload limit. The pings were unquestionably high, though nothing worrisome could be noted.

The servers from the Middle East and African locations leave room for much improvement. The ping was high and the speed was below average.

The average speed on a global structure could be derived at 35mbps and the Max Speed/Burst stood out at around 135mbps.

Leak Tests

I’m thoroughly pleased to announce there were no major DNS leaks noted throughout our regular testing of ExpressVPN. There were a few catches but nothing gruesome.

However, we also ran IP tests on both our Windows and Mac devices and more often than not, our IPv6 addresses were leaked.

Streaming and Torrenting

ExpressVPN for Netflix

Accessing geo-restricting Netflix content has been ExpressVPN’s selling point since the beginning. Many VPNs either aren’t capable of unlocking Netflix or even when they do unblock it, the Netflix servers detect the fake IPs within seconds and blocks access yet again.

ExpressVPN is best used all across the globe for its ability to unblock major streaming sites such as Netflix US and Netflix UK. Their server locations are so powerful that there is sometimes no need to switch between servers and your anonymity is always ensured.

Torrenting

As we all know, over the years of extensive security and caution, it’s become increasingly difficult to unlock torrenting sites. On top of that, accessing torrent websites is asking for unnecessary trouble.

ExpressVPN is one of the leading VPNs in the market when it comes to torrenting in peace. It’s not a VPN provider which shies away from letting the user access restricted websites. Sure, there are a few quirks of ISPs when using torrents for downloading.

However, ExpressVPN encrypts all of your data, such as your IP address or your internet search histories and passwords, and thus prevents it from getting into wrong hands. ExpressVPN provides absolute anonymity while torrenting.

P2P Enabled

ExpressVPN is also P2P enabled. It allows the users to download files directly from torrent by any of their 2000+ server locations. With ExpressVPN, just simply switch to any server you fancy and all the data you send over the Internet will be masked and your downloads cannot be traced by anyone.

ExpressVPN enables splendid torrent traffic without any caps on the bandwidth allocation to limit your download speed.

Hulu, BBC iPlayer, HBO, Now TV and other streaming Websites

Other than Netflix, ExpressVPN is entirely capable of letting you unlock major streaming websites which are mostly geo-restricted in most locations. You can stream in HD on websites such as Hulu, HBO, BBCiPlayer, Sling TV, Now TV, Sky TV, etc.

  • ExpressVPN has always been a firm believer in ease-of-use interface and functionality. The Windows Client offers a splendid set of features and its installation is pretty simple. The client asks for your activation code, after which you can boost the VPN by hitting the ‘connect’ button.

ExpressVPN’s Windows Client contains unwavering DNS leak guards and an Internet Kill Switch which prevents your IP address from being transparent.

ExpressVPN also has a similar interface as the Windows Client and there are no complaints about features being diverse in any of the OS setups.

ExpressVPN is compatible with the Android and IOS devices as well. The interface is easy to handle and it enables the users to browse the Internet the way they want in their smartphones and tablets. The Android app supports Android 4.2 and above, and the IOS app is compatible with IOS 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12.

    Supported Browser Extensions

  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Safari
  • There are proxy versions of ExpressVPN also available for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari browsers as extensions. However, the catch is that there’s a slight difference between a VPN and Proxy; since a proxy isn’t as secure as it can protect your sensitive over the Internet only.

Supported Gaming Consoles and Steaming Devices

  • Apple TV
  • Amazon TV
  • Chromecast
  • Nintendo
  • Xbox
  • Playstation
  • Roku
  • ExpressVPN supports a wide variety of streaming devices in the likes of Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Roku and the Amazon Fire Stick.

    Security Measures

    Privacy and Logging Policy

In all the leading VPN providers in the market, ExpressVPN has the most thorough and reliable logging policy. It ensures your privacy like no other service and guarantees that none of your data is ever logged with ExpressVPN.

It does collect information but it suffices of your server location, the usage of the VPN, and the amount of data transferred. It strictly ensures that ExpressVPN does not hold data such as your browser history, passwords, traffic, data content, IP addresses or DNS.

    Encryption

ExpressVPN has very strict encryption which is impossible to penetrate. Powered by the AES-256 encryption technology, ExpressVPN assures no data can ever be transmitted or snooped by any party whatsoever.

    Online Protocols and Split-tunneling

ExpressVPN has several online protocols available such as the IKEv2, IPSec, L2TP, IPSec, and OpenVPN. All of these are noteworthy and you can set your desired protocol yourself or let the app decide the preferred one for you.

It even has the split-tunneling capabilities, which let me remind you, isn’t easy to find in most VPNs.

    Bypassing Censorship

I’m very pleased to inform that ExpressVPN stands proud as one of the very rare VPN providers which are indeed capable of working successfully in China. Not only China, but ExpressVPN can just as easily bypass many other high-censorship countries such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

It can handle such hefty censorship blocks thanks to its capacity to automatically switch protocols and give it an additional layer for fooling censors.

    Customer Support

It’s important for a VPN provider to provide the most friendly and customer-oriented support. Thankfully, ExpressVPN understands the importance of consumer satisfaction and thus, allows around-the-clock live chat support for everyone.

Other than that, there are dozens of online guides and tutorials covering many topics which users tend to find complicated.

    To sum it all up

Well, there you have it; a through and through account of everything you need to know about ExpressVPN, in great detail.

Some juries claim ExpressVPN to be one of the best VPN providers in the market and with good reason. Considering its pricing range, it’s pretty much unbeatable.

From allowing super fast streaming and P2P downloading to ensuring the most secure privacy and anonymity options, ExpressVPN covers it all. If you’re looking for a rock-solid VPN which doesn’t shy away or gives up easily, ExpressVPN is the one.

    Do I recommend ExpressVPN?

Well, there are absolutely a couple catches with ExpressVPN. But then again, so does at least a dozen other VPNs I’ve tried. I liked the quality of ExpressVPN way better than any other provider out there. I can just about easily claim ExpressVPN as one of my Top 3 VPN ever.

To cut things short; yes, I definitely suggest you try out ExpressVPN if you want a VPN service which is nearly impenetrable. It’s got everything you need, though if you still feel unsure, you can always avail your refund with its 30 days money-back guarantee.
